70th UN General Assembly’s annual General Debate begins today The UN General Assembly’s 70th Annual General Debate for the year will commence today. For this year’s debate, around 150 world leaders will fly down to discuss issues like sustainable development, climate change, refugee crisis, terrorism and tackling ISIS.

As per a PTI report, the UN Sustainable Development Summit, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also present his annual report on the work of the Organisation.

With world leaders scheduled to adopt a climate change agreement in December in Paris, the effects of climate change and commitments by the countries to cut emission is expected to be the focus for a number of leaders.

Moreover, leaders will also have discuss the mushrooming crisis and urge nations to embrace more migrants fleeing due to terror and persecution in troubled hot spots of Iraq and Syria.

The Assembly president this year, Mogens Lykketoft of Denmark will deliver the keynote opening speech, and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff would be the first national speaker. Among the other top leaders who will be addressing the Assembly, several have already attended the three day summit that launched the 2030 agenda.
