It all started with a point built by one of his classmates during his B.Ed days.

A.....................................P............................B

While most of us would say the line is divided into two parts, this person taught TV Rao the significance of the point P. This single point in the entire line has made a difference in the journey of a man from point A to B and hence the life is divided into two parts or three parts, he would say, AP, P and BP.

TV Rao, in his new book ‘Effective People’ explores such points who have made a difference in others lives.

“The need to find out extraordinary things done by ordinary people inspired me to write this book,” said Rao.

He starts the journey by defining who ‘effective people’ are.

“Anyone who discovers inner talent, uses it and makes a difference in the lives of other people by benefiting them can be considered an effective people.”

Though by the cover of the book one would think it is about a book of famous people, it is not. It is about famous work. The most inspiring part is anyone can become an effective person.

“There are three levels of effectiveness, realise your talent, work on your talent and make your talent available to large number of people,” he said.

Rao not only talks about doctors, civil servants, lawyers, bankers, professors and film actors in this book, he draws incidences from his life too. From talking about his mother’s struggles in life to educate her son all by herself to his becoming the “The Father of Indian HRD”, every instance is a burning example of how we can become a point in others' lives. He still asks this simple question before embarking on a new journey.

“Can you become a point in other’s life so that you make a difference in their life?”

It is said that every book is a learning experience for the author. A smiling Rao said this project was one of the most important projects of his life.

“An important lesson I learned was that one should move from helping a few people to institutionalising our talent. Then he/she would become a super effective person.”

He added that this book also taught him to always play on the positives, which is important in today’s world where criticism has become such a powerful tool of expression.

Now the big question- How do we become an effective person?
