A less expensive gold Apple Watch could be on the way
Apple
MacRumors reported Friday that Apple plans to release at least one new metal finish for the Apple Watch at its big media event in San Francisco next week.
While the Apple Watch is not expected to get a major hardware overhaul, the new metal finish could mean a less expensive gold-colored Apple Watch is in the works. Back in March, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a note that Apple would likely roll out additional casing options; in July, he said the casing would likely be a yellow or rose gold colored aluminum finish for the Apple Watch Sport, which is the most affordable Apple Watch model.
Currently, the Apple Watch Sport is only available in silver or space gray aluminum and starts at $349. Kuo said earlier this year that Apple may add more colors for the watch casings to match the new color of the iPhone 6S, which reportedly going to be sold in rose gold for the first time.
Apple is also expected to unveil more colored bands for the Apple Watch Sport model, according to MacRumors. Currently, the bands come in green, pink, blue, white, gray, and black; the company is expected to reveal more options in darker colors. We'll learn more at Apple's September 9 media event.
