With the massive success of Pokemon Go even Apple CEO Tim Cook could not help but see Augmented Reality (AR) in a whole new light.

Apple has already acquired various AR companies including Metaio, Faceshift, and Flyby Media. And noticing the massive success of Pokemon Go Cook said, “AR can be really great, and we have been and continue to invest a lot in this. We are high on AR for the long run, we think there’s great things for customers and a great commercial opportunity.”

Analysts all over the world already feel AR is more likely to be the next big thing. As with AR games/apps you are still very much a part of the real world as it is augmented or enhanced view of the real world supplemented with computer generated information whereas in Virtual Reality (VR) you are completely shut off from the outside world. AR also doesn’t need accessories like headsets and glasses for the experience like VR which is why AR can be a perfect fit for mobile.

But again we are now seeing the popularity of Pokemon Go go down. And that’s something key to the industry, in the beginning, every new thing is seen as the next big thing. No one knows this better than Cook, “I think AR can be huge, but we’ll see whether it will be the next computing platform.”

So maybe you can expect the future iPhones to be built in a way that fully supports AR. Apart from that Apple is likely to announce many AR apps and AR accessories in the future. So be ready to see a whole lot of ‘Invent’ions from Apple that will not just benefit the company but the tech world as a whole.
