Here's a weird theme of the iPhone 6 reviews.

The new phone is smooth, round, and slippery according to a number of critics. As a result, you'll probably want a case, even more so than in the past.

  • Walt Mossberg at Re/code said, "Its width and smooth back can make it feel a bit slippery in your palm until you get used to it." Mossberg even dropped his review phone and shattered the screen, though he says it had nothing to do with the phone being slippery.
  • Molly Wood at the New York Times says, "The effect looks sleek, but feels slippery. Dropping seems imminent as you stretch your thumb across the larger screens."
  • Darrell Ethrington at TechCrunch reviewed Apple's iPhone 6 cases, saying, "The accessories also serve another purpose: providing a more grippy surface to hold onto when you're using the phones, which is appreciated given how smooth and rounded the new hardware designs are."
  • Nilay Patel at The Verge recommended using a case for the iPhone 6 Plus: "That aluminum feels quite nice, but it's also a little slippery, especially when you factor in the size of the phone and its rounded sides. The iPhone 6 Plus is the first iPhone that looks and works better in a case - I've been using Apple's leather sleeve and it makes the phone easier to hold, evens out that camera bump, and hides the weird lines on the back."
  • And, here's one more, this time from Scott Stein at CNET: "The new iPhone feels good to hold and feels beautifully solid; the metal back and glass front have a smoothed, comfortable design that's a little like that of the original iPhone. But it also has a slight aura of fragility; maybe it's the extra-slim look, or the massive pane of curved glass on the front. I instantly wanted to slip it into a case just to be safe."
