Apple is reportedly planning to make a big change to the way it sells accessories for Apple products in its retail stores.

The company wants to co-design the packaging for accessories so that it more closely mirrors that of Apple's own products, 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman reports.

Apple has already been working with a few accessory makers on this change, and the company may even eventually cut down on inventory for products that don't fit this new look, according to Gurman. Apple has also sent out a memo to Apple Store employees to inform them of the change.

The new packaging is expected to look similar to the boxing for Apple's own products, such as the Apple Watch, iPhone, and Mac, and will reportedly feature simpler fonts, higher quality materials, and will be mostly white. Accessories from Tech21, Sena, Incase, Mophie, Logitech, and Life Proof will be included in the change.

Here's an example of what the packaging for accessories made by Mophie and Logitech could look like, according to 9to5mac.

It's unclear exactly when the shift will take place, but a previous report from Japanese blog Macotakara indicated that Apple could start stocking products with this new packaging in July.

If Apple does indeed decide to move toward a new look for the packaging of third party accessories, it could mean a more limited selection of products to choose from in-store. As Gurman notes, Apple might begin to cut back on items that don't meet Apple's expectations in terms of packaging.
