BCCI has nominated Virat Kohli for Khel Ratna award and Ajinkya Rahane for Arjuna Award

In what is his career’s best phase so far, Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has been recommended by the BCCI for the nation's biggest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

Another young gun from the Indian cricket team, Ajinkya Rahane, has been nominated for the prestigious Arjuna Award.

Kohli, who led India to an impressive series win in Sri Lanka and a 3-0 win against South Africa, has made India the second-best team in the test format.

If Kohli gets the award, he will become the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (1997-98) and MS Dhoni (2007-08) to have won the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.

Talking of Rahane, also known as Mr. Consistent, he has been India's best overseas batsman in the recent matches.

If won, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award would bring Kohli a cash reward of Rs 7.5 lakhs and a citation, and Rahane will take home a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs and a citation.

"We have received the recommendations from the BCCI. Their names will be sent to the awards selection committee," a sports ministry official said.
