Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to be born after freedom, is does not have any colonial hangovers as the elite class, which makes a constant effort to win brownie points from foreigners.

Indian academicians feel elated when they get themselves published in their journals, and industrialists donate to foreign educational institutions and criticise the poor quality of the domestic ones. Even our political leaders and bureaucrats crave for recognition at global forums.

However, PM Modi rather prefers to win his accolades in the country and he is least bothered about the impression that he makes internationally. Modi bears the hope of making India's economic development and progress a social movement and bridging the gulf between 'rulers' and 'ruled'.

He can guide the people out of their helplessness and seek from them their dedication and hard work to move India forward. He should always keep in mind the need to strengthen the democratic institutions that have been nurtured over the last 67 years.
