Chart shows just how much Serena and Venus Williams have dominated women's tennis
At the French Open in 1999, Steffi Graf won her 22nd and final grand slam title. Three months later, Serena Williams won the US Open, the first of 21 grand slam titles that has left her one away from tying Graf's Open Era record.
But while we focus on the greatness of Serena, it is a little too easy to forget how dominant sister Venus was before a series of injuries slowed her down. In fact, as the chart shows, starting with that 1999 US Open, Venus and Serena have been on a run where they have combined to win 28 (43.8%) of the last 64 grand slams.
That's a level of dominance that is probably not appreciated enough.
