The Supreme Court has refused to allow any further hearing in the coal blocks allocation scam. The companies which were allocated coal blocks had moved a petition in the Supreme Court and asked for a re-hearing in the case.

The companies pleaded that it cancellation would lead to breakdown of power generation and suffering for the rural population, who are already facing a power crisis.

A bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha refused to entertain the pleas of power-generating companies that there should be a re-hearing in case the court cancels the allocations.

The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment on the fate of 218 coal blocks allocated after 1993, which it had declared “illegal and arbitrary.” The Centre has asked the court to set up a committee to look into each allocation.
