The flagship carrier of African nation Ethiopia has named its newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner after the Taj Mahal, India’s most famous monument. This is for the first time that the airline has named a Dreamliner aircraft after a historical or heritage site outside of Africa.

With its large African network, the Ethiopian Airlines is looking to benefit from the large number of Indians travelling across the region.
Ethiopian Airlines, which currently operates one flight to New Delhi and two flights to Mumbai per day, is also considering other destinations like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

“In doing so, we are heralding the renaissance of Africa globally and we will continue promoting iconic international figures found in the destinations we serve. This will also strengthen our already established relations with India as we have an increasing number of Indian travellers,” an Ethiopian Airlines official said.
