42 days after the demonetization announcement, and most of us are still struggling with the effects of cash-crunch.

From not finding an ATM with cash to not finding change for the hardly-procured new Rs. 2000 note, most of us are dreading the ATM lines that face our reality.

To help us during this cash crunch of times, Walnut which is a personal finance management app has introduced a new feature that allows users to find a working ATM with cash, by tracking aggregate ATM withdrawals across India in real time. The data is collected over 90,000 ATMs situated all over the country.

According to the company, Walnut is seeing a huge surge in requests with more than 40 Million requests for ATM information.

In conversation with Business Insider, Amit Bhor, Co-Founder, and CEO, Walnut said,’’ We launched our app within 3 days of the demonetization announcement on 11th November. Since then, we have grown to about 4 million monthly active users who can use our app to find out which ATM’s have cash, what kind of notes do these ATMs carry from 500 to 2000 rupee notes, real-time.

According to Mr. Bhor, as this information is completely based on user feedback, 60% users are willing to help their kin in ATM lines regarding information about if an ATM queue is longer or shorter and if the ATM has just run out of cash.
The other great feature of the app is that it has a Notification feature that sends out a push notification to you if an ATM near you has cash, based on GPS tracking. 90% of users who used this “Notify Me” feature have got a real-time notification when an ATM becomes functional nearby.
