On Tuesday, Uber did the unthinkable. It revealed a completely redesigned app logo ditching the old favourite U-shaped design, the one we’d gotten so fond of, and instead chose to go with a more abstract and unusual collection of lines and squares.

The only problem was the new logo looked nothing like an Uber logo. You could have the app staring right back at you on your phone and you still wouldn’t be able to notice it- because it felt that alien.

Predictably, the Internet had a lot to say about Uber’s new rebranding and sadly none of them were favourable. But, looking at the good side, we have to admit that the company succeeded in getting people to talk about it!

If reports are to be believed, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick himself helped the design team come up with the logo. Unfortunately, people have already branded it as a ‘disaster’ even after the company came up with a complex explanation behind the thought of the new logo.

Most people dubbed the logo as ‘confusing’ and ‘ugly’ with one Twitter user even claiming that the new logo has ‘shaken him to the core’ while the other saying it has given him anxiety.

While, the shock is understandable, as we too personally can’t seem to relate to or understand why Uber would willingly want to associate themselves with this logo. Hence, to strengthen our case, we came up with a list of five things the Uber logo looks like, instead of looking like an Uber logo.

Five
things the Uber logo looks like instead of looking like an Uber logo

1. SBI logo: This is every Indian’s worst nightmare. The first time you look at the Uber logo, you see it, and then you can’t unsee it anymore. The State Bank of India logo must’ve fallen asleep on its side and woken up as the new Uber logo, quipped someone on Twitter and we cannot help but agree.

Thanks to Travis and the design team at the ride-sharing platform, desis worldwide forever be confused and can never tilt their head sideways while looking at the SBI logo any longer. End of an era.

2. Photo editing app: Look at Uber’s new logo. Cringe. But, then look at it again. Doesn’t it make you want to click selfies so you could get them edited to look nothing like you from the app you’ve mistaken as a photo editing app?

3. Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad: When Travis Kalanick says he can find inspiration anywhere, literally, anywhere, he wasn’t kidding. Nope, not all. On the plus side, this is the only time people will get to know about this lake’s existence or talk about Ahmedabad.

5. A sperm entering an egg: Great to know, Uber is so in favour of biology lessons!

To conclude, we have a message for you, Travis Kalanick, the new logo would ONLY make sense if Uber was called Ober.

There is just that one way.
