Earlier this week, HTC announced its first-ever 64-bit based Desire 820 smartphone running on Snapdragon octa-core chipset for India. However, what caught us by surprise is the Desire 816G. Priced at Rs 18,990 and available in the country, Desire 816G is supposedly the successor to Desire 816 that selling at around Rs 20,000. We take a closer look to ascertain the differences between the two devices and comprehend the ‘G’ added to the name.

As you can see, there is no remarkable different between Desire 816 and 816G except for the fact, and we love it, that Desire 816G is more affordable. The cameras remain the same, so does the display and the battery. 816G is slightly lighter than its predecessor but looses out on the memory and storage front; which is 1 GB and 32 expandable, respectively. The company has not highlighted the make of its quad-core chipset, but there’s a possibility that it’s by MediaTek.

Another interesting aspect about the 816G is that, it supports GSM SIMs (nano) only, so you won't be able to use any kind of CDMA SIM on the Desire 816G which might have helped HTC to lower down the price of the device.
