Trulia's chief economist Jed Kolko tweeted out maps showing how the job market is doing in US metropolitan areas. We were interested by this long-term map, showing how metro area job markets have changed over the last two decades. Metro areas in the South and Southwest mostly grew at a much faster rate than in the Northeast and Midwest:

More immediately, here's job growth between August 2013 and August 2014.

Kolko observed that the long term trend is pretty similar to the annual trend, with the sunbelt showing high average annual job growth rates over the last couple decades.
