Economists forecast that it would show a gain by 185,000, down from the monster addition of 298,000 in February.
The manufacturing sector accounted for the big gain as it saw a record addition of 160,000 jobs. Every other sub-sector increased hiring on net.
ADP's data comes ahead of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' jobs report on Friday, which is forecast to show that the US economy added 175,000 nonfarm payrolls last month.
