Economists forecast that the final sentiment index for May dipped to 95.4 from 95.8, according to Bloomberg.
In the preliminary report, consumers attributed their confidence to wage growth, optimism about the jobs market, and hopes that inflation will not eat into their real incomes.
They expressed some uncertainty about the upcoming Presidential elections, although their expectations for economic growth overshadowed those concerns.
