Shoppers look at merchandise at a Walmart store in Secaucus, New Jersey

The latest reading on consumer confidence from the Conference Board will cross the wires at 10 a.m. ET.

Economists forecast that the index dropped to 99.0 in September, according to the Bloomberg consensus.

The previous month saw consumer confidence unexpectedly jump to 101.1 - the highest reading since September 2015.
