Here is what will happen to England if it wins, draws or loses its next game

England's fans breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday as substitute Daniel Sturridge scored a last-minute winner to beat Wales 2-1.

The win takes England to the top of Group B, with Wales and Slovakia joint-second and Russia fourth.

With one more game to go in the group stages, here's a guide to what will happen if England wins, draws or loses its next match:

England against Slovakia (Monday 20th June 20:00)

• WIN - England comfortably tops group B, going on to play whoever comes third in group A, C or D on Saturday June 25.
• DRAW - Guarantees a last 16 finish, but if Wales beats Russia then England will come second in the group, going on to play the runner-up in Group F on June 27. If Wales draws or loses to Russia, England remains on top of the group.
• LOSE - This is where it gets complicated. If Wales draws in this scenario it goes top and England finishes second in the group on goal differences. If England loses and Wales beats Russia, England will have a nervous wait to see if it is one of the four best third-placed teams in the group stages. This would mean playing the winner of Group C or D. If England loses and Russia beats Wales, both will have 4 points. Who goes through will come down to goal difference and, if they are both the same, the number of goals scored. Slovakia will top the group in this scenario.

Slovakia will be no push-over. It had a convincing 2-1 win over Russia on Wednesday, with attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik, who scored one incredible goal and set up the other in the match, proving himself a real threat.

But all things considered, England is in a very strong position - it can still lose on Monday and qualify, though fans will expect a win. England manager Roy Hodgson should have learned to be bolder in using his attacking players after the Wales match, meaning repeat appearances by Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge are likely.
