Here's the percentage of deaths caused by car crashes in each state
Researchers Michael Sivak and Brandon Schoettle of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute just released a report comparing fatalities caused by road crashes to other causes of death in the US. They took counts of fatalities from road crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and from various other causes of death from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and saw how fatality rates from crashes stacked up against other causes.
For the US overall, about 1.3% of deaths in 2013 were caused by road crashes. That percentage varied widely across the states, from just 0.4% in Washington, DC to 2.4% in North Dakota and Montana.
