Here’s the list of the top 10 memes of all time and the winner is a shocker

Confused pronunciation and unclear definition shrouded the early days of the historic Meme. Though people still argue about the pronunciation, the Merriam Webster Dictionary has given a definite meaning to it last year. Memes have become the most popular art on social media to express our feeling about any situation, eventful or uneventful.

Funnystatus came out with the top 10 memes of all time and the winner is the most simple meme ever created, I’ve-seen-it-on-Reddit meme Y U No, from which over 2.2 million unique memes have been created.



Here is the history behind these popular memes.

1. Y U No- He came from the Japanese manga Gantz, which made its rounds on 4chan after its release in 2002. The face was modified and posted on Tumblr in 2010.

2. Futurama Fry- In Season 2, Episode 6 of Futurama titled “The Lesser of Two Evils”, Fry was seen making the face shortly after being found searching Leela’s underwear drawer.

3. The Most Interesting Man in the World- His real name is Jonathan Goldsmith. He became a meme with a 2006 Dos Equis beer ad campaign. He resides in Vermont alongside his wife and dogs.

4. Success Kid- It began in 2007 when the baby's mother posted a picture of her son clenching sand in his fist. This eventually became known as the "Success Kid" meme.

5. One does not simply walk into Mordor- The phrase originates from a scene in Peter Jackson’s 2001 film adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. In the scene, the Council of Elrond reveals that an evil ring must be destroyed by being thrown into the fires of Mount Doom, a volcano deep in the territory of Mordor. Boromir promptly points out the difficultly of the task by saying, “One does not simply walk into Mordor."

6. Willy Wonka- The image comes from a scene in the 1971 musical Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in which Willy Wonka, played by Gene Wilder, asks the children if they would like to see a new candy he is working on. On the web, Wilder’s picture from the film was introduced in January 2011 through an instance of the “You Must Be New Here” reaction face.

7. Philosoraptor- The original Philosoraptor was originally created as a T-shirt design on LonelyDinosaur by Sam Smith, who registered the copyright for his design on October 8th, 2008.

8. First World Problems- The earliest known reference to this phrase can be found in the lyrics of Canadian alt rock band Matthew Good Band’s 1995 song titled “Omissions of the Omen,” which was included as a bonus track on their full-length debut album Last of the Ghetto Astronauts.

9. Bad Luck Brian- The teen is Kyle Craven, who wanted to create a ridiculous yearbook photo for his junior year. He bought a sweater vest at a thrift store and made that face. His friend posted the image online in 2012.

10. Scumbag Steve- His real name is Blake Boston. Back in 2006, Boston was just 16, and his mother took the photo of him standing in the doorway.
