India worst hit by Petya in Asia Pacific region, claims Symantec

Security software firm Symantec has claimed that India is the worst hit country in the entire Asia Pacific region by the 'Petya' ransomware, while globally, it stands at the seventh place in the list of most affected nations.

The ransomware has claimed thousands of victims all over the world.

Symantec’s list of worst hit nations in the world is topped by Ukraine, the US and Russia, while France, the UK, Germany, China and Japan also feature on the list.

After the 'WannaCry' ransomware attack that took place in May and affected over 100 countries, this is the second time this year that cyber security has been at risk.

Some of the biggest corporations that have borne the impact of ths attack are Russia's largest oil company Rosneft, Ukraine's international airport, shipping firm AP Moller-Maersk, and advertising giant WPP.

In India, the attack is said to have affected one of the terminals at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), while operations at private port operator, APM Terminals Pipavav were also partially disturbed.
