Infosys has appointed Anup Uppadhyay as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and Deepak Bhalla as the new chief financial officer (CFO) of its business process outsourcing (BPO) arm.

Uppadhayay, a veteran at the company, was earlier the global head of the parent company's financial services business. Bhalla, who joined the software giant in 1998, was head of its corporate accounting group.

"As BPO is of strategic importance to us, our endeavour is to transform it with process innovation, automation and artificial intelligence to deliver efficiency and business value to our clients," Infosys chief executive Vishal Sikka said.

Sikka expressed hope that the company's back office operations, under Uppadhyay and Bhalla, would set an example on how to run BPO.

These appointments were made after the resignation of incumbent CEO Gautam Thakkar and removal of incumbent CFO Abraham Mathews.

"Mathews' departure is in line with our goal of setting the highest standard of corporate governance and adhering to the letter and spirit of our code of conduct," Infosys said in a statement.
