Customers have complained that part of the plastic on the individually-wrapped slices is sticking to the cheese following removal.

Three people have reported choking on the plastic, according to the company.

About 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz to retailers in the US, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman, the company said.

"We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed. Consumers who purchased this product should not eat it," Kraft Heinz said in a press release. "They should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund."
