Lyft just invited its top customers into a program that promises secret parties
If you take a lot of Lyft rides, you may have found an invite to join Lyft Nation, "the official collective for top riders," in your inbox today.
The invite promises secret parties and exclusive partnerships.
Lyft Nation is not a loyalty program, but a new community program, said a Lyft spokesperson. The ride-hailing company invited its top 10 percent of riders from across the nation to join the collective.
Its rival Uber doesn't have a community program that we've heard of like this, but it does have VIP programs in different cities. In New York, riders have been receiving emails to become an Uber VIP after they take 100 rides.
I haven't even cracked 100 rides with Lyft, but I still got the invite for Lyft Nation. Here's what my usage looks like to qualify as a top 10 percent rider:
Biz Carson
If you crunch the numbers, that means I'm taking about one ride a week and for an average of 2.8 miles.
I may be on the low end, though. The rest of my Lyft Nation brethren are touting some much higher numbers that are closer to 1,000 rides with the company:
This is over 20 months, for context :) Proud to be a member of #LyftNation. 931 @Lyft rides, 8028 mi., and going strong.

Apparently I've taken 453 @Lyft rides. Is there a German word for pride, shame and love of the sharing economy? #lyftnation
