Meet 15-year-old Abhay Agarwal who is one of the youngest students to enter IIT

At an age when most students are clueless about the career they want to pursue, 15-year-old Abhay Agrawal has cracked JEE Advance 2017 - one of India's toughest exam.

With 2476 All India Rank, he has even secured a seat in IIT-BHU. Abhay has secured admission in mechanical engineering, but has not yet confirmed his seat and instead opted to `float' the given choice of institute as he wants to study at IIT Roorkee.

He jumped initial classes and completed Class 12 before his contemporaries at school. "My parents got me enrolled at a coaching class in the city. Some people discouraged me but that motivated me to study harder," said Abhay.

Unlike his classmates, he stayed away from social media and other distractions while preparing for the competition. He comes from a modest family. His father Mukesh works as a pump attendant at Firozabad Nagar Nigam, and his mother, Ekta, is a Class 12 passout.

His father said, "Abhay has brought us laurels at an early age. When the chief medical officer in Firozabad had to prepare his medical certificate, he was surprised. At IIT Kanpur also, JEE staff was amazed to know he was this young. He is a talented boy with high capabilities. He would finish BTech also in the stipulated time."

Meanwhile, on his feat, a JEE staffer said, "He could be the youngest candidate this year to join an IIT. His class 10 mark sheet confirms that he is fifteen and a half year old. He was born on November 9, 2001.”

In class 12 exams Abhay had scored 87.2 percent from CBSE Board and scored 85.63 percent in class 10 from UP Board. Unlike his classmates, he stayed away from social media and other distractions while preparing for the competition.

He aspires to own a startup that will deal in products related to robotics.
