Consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture has announced Rekha Menon as its new India chairman.

The company has also appointed Anindya Basu as its new country managing director. Both the appointments will be effective from August 21, reported the Economic Times.

Menon, who currently heads human resources for growth markets at Accenture, will succeed Avinash Vashistha who resigned in July.

"Rekha has made impressive contributions to our people and our communities," said Gianfranco Casati, Accenture's group chief executive, growth markets.

According to the company statement, Basu will be responsible for driving Accenture's domestic business in India and building relationships with key clients.

Casati said: "Her (Rekha) experience will be extremely valuable as we continue to build our brand and enhance our reputation as a leader in India."

Menon will be the Accenture's first woman head in India, continuing a recent trend of multinational technology firms in India appointing women leaders.

IBM named Vanitha Narayanan as its India managing director in 2013, while Neelam Dhawan and Kumud Srinivasan enjoy similar roles at HP and Intel respectively.
