One of Apple's main suppliers is already hiring thousands of new workers to produce the iPhone 6S, report claims
Protek, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company Pegatron, is said to be hiring 40,000 new workers in preparation for iPhone 6S production, Taiwanese publication Digitimes notes, which published a brief synopsis of IT-Times' report in English.
Protek began recruiting new hires at the end of June for the production process, which is said to begin in August according to the report.
This isn't the first time Apple's suppliers have hired thousands upon thousands of new workers to get ready for an upcoming iPhone release. Last June, Chinese news outlet the Economic Daily News reported that Foxconn, another major Apple supplier, would recruit 100,000 new employees to produce the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The same report also said Pegatron planned to expand its workforce in one major factory in mainland China by 30%.
Apple typically sells millions of its new iPhones within their first weekend on the market. Last year, for example, first weekend iPhone sales topped 10 million when the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched, marking a new record for Apple. So it's not surprising to hear that Apple's suppliers are hiring more workers in anticipation of high demand for Apple's upcoming iPhone(s).
Apple is likely to introduce its next iPhone, which many are expecting to be called the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7, in September. It probably won't be a major upgrade from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but rather an incremental update that adds a few new features such as a Force Touch screen and an improved camera, according to reports from 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman and KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most accurate analysts covering Apple.
