One of Facebook's first European execs has raised $3 million for a front door lock
Glue
Oliva's startup, Glue, has created a solution that allows you to control your front door from wherever you happen to be in the world, providing you have access to an internet connection.
"We have an app that you download and that becomes your digital key for your front door," said Oliva, formerly regional director for Europe, Middle East & Africa at Facebook, during an interview with Business Insider. "We have a smart lock as well that goes inside your door."
The company has been trialling its £249 smart lock with Swedish supermarket giant ICA and PostNord. The trial - described in more detail in the video below - allows people to get in-fridge delivery for groceries that they order online.
"We're trying to solve the last-mile delivery problem," said Oliva. "This means you're able to get groceries while you're away without the hassle of needing to be there."
In addition to grocery deliveries, Glue also helps people grant access to their homes to family, guests, and trusted companies. Friends, for example, can also unlock a Glue user's door once they have been given an access code. Glue users get a notification on their smartphone every time someone unlocks their front door.
Two of Glue's new backers, former Tesla chief purchasing officer Peter Carlsson and Rovio chairman Kaj Hed, join the board of directors and advisory board, respectively.
Carlsson said in a statement: "With Tesla, we changed how the world thinks about an entire industry. I am driven by these kinds of challenges and see similarities with Glue, especially how its hardware and software is making homes a lot smarter.
"Thanks to Glue's solution, e-commerce and in-home-services are taking off for real and we will see many new companies and business models being established based on Glue's ecosystem."
