Over 2.8 million students in India will be able to find their exam results directly via Google Search

Google is trying to catalogue the results of one of the largest examinations in the world. The company is tying up with India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to display exam results through Google search.

Under the initiative, students will be able to search for Board Examination results directly on Google. That means students won’t have to visit official websites, which often crash when exam results are declared, because of high traffic on the sites. This, in turn, leads to delays in students getting access to their results.

The board examinations in India are state levels examinations, considered important for further admissions in colleges. The CBSE conducts these examinations for a huge part of the country. In fact, reports say over 2.8 million students appeared for these examinations in 2018.

This is not the first time Google is making such an effort though. Earlier, the company had catalogued the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) Main results that came out on 30 April 2018. The JEE examinations are also conducted by the CBSE, for admissions to some of India’s most prestigious engineering colleges, including the various Indian Institute of Technology branches.

How is this different?

Before this, students or parents first had to use Google search to find the hosting portal and then log into that website to check exam results. The issue with this approach was that the time taken to access the results would completely depend on website’s server. Multiple login attempts and traffic congestion led to students having to wait hours until they could see their results.

With Google involved, students will be able to type ‘CBSE 12 Results 2018’ into the Google search box and after selecting the correct option from the recommended searches, a CBSE window will pop open.

Students will have to follow the usual procedure of filling in their roll number, date of birth etc. for the results to show up.

The results will also be available through the official CBSE website, an interactive voice response (IVR) service, SMS, DigiLocker and official school websites.
