In what can be considered as a proud moment foe the country, India boxing star Vijender Singh managed to break into the top 10 of the World Boxing Organisation Rankings on Wednesday.

This feat comes after Singh managed to defeat former WBC European champion Kerry Hope in a gruelling 10-round contest to clinch the Asia Pacific super middleweight champion in Delhi last month, which enabled him to enter the rankings.

Additionally, he has also remained unbeaten since turning professional last year, recording seven straight wins.

Singh is a rung below US-based Russian Matt Korobov, who has 26 wins in 27 fights so far and is placed above American star Trevor McCumby, who is also undefeated in the circuit with 22 wins.

Talking to PTI, Singh, who was India’s first Olympic and World Championships medal winner said, "It's just the start for me, one day I want to be the No.1 in the world. That's my dream and I am sure I will achieve it.”
