Who doesn’t love humour—especially when it is used during supposedly ‘serious’ conversations to lighten the atmosphere? It seems that our dear Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu loves humour too. He used puns incessantly while delivering his Railway Budget speech in the house, and had the house almost splitting into laughter.
And as he did so, a part of us was laughing and the other part was wondering whether he is playing jokes on himself or ‘us’. He didn’t offer anything exciting to make us say ‘wow’. The expectations were definitely higher from him.

Let’s leave puns aside as now the speech has been delivered, reforms and suggestions have been already announced. We can do nothing to change it, but we can surely share a laugh or two by revisiting the puns Prabhu delivered during his speech. Here are some of our favourite puns by the minister. Read, share and laugh!!

1. While talking about improving the railway capacity in the high density section.

"Our priority is to improve the capacity in the high density section. But I thought, hey Prabhu (oh god), how will it happen. Prabhu (God) didn't answer, so this Prabhu thought, why can't we do something?"

2. While announcing middle berth reservation for women and old people
“…in trains, stairs to the upper berth would be improved and the middle berth would be "reserved for women and old people like me."

3. While announcing the high speed corridor between Delhi and Kolkata
"…my friends from West Bengal can travel faster."
