Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, one of President Donald Trump's top antagonists within the GOP, tweeted a photo Tuesday of his $100 donation to Doug Jones, the Democratic Senate candidate in Alabama running against Republican candidate Roy Moore, who is embroiled in a sexual misconduct controversy involving underage girls.

"Country over Party," Flake wrote on his check to Jones' campaign.

Moore, the Alabama candidate who last month was hit with allegations that he preyed on teenagers when he was in his 30s, recently received Trump's backing. Others in the Republican Party who quickly denounced Moore have since softened their stances, and on Monday night the Republican National Committee began supporting Moore again after previously withdrawing from the race.

Flake, who announced he is retiring from the Senate at the end of his current term in early 2019, has often criticized the president and the party as a whole.

The Alabama election is set to be held next week.
