Samsung led the Indian handsets market in second quarter with a 20.6% share in overall mobile handsets shipment.CyberMedia Research (CMR) finding revealed that the South Korean device maker’s smartphones share stood at 24.6%. Meanwhile, domestic handset maker Micromax’s shares stood at 14.8% and Intex at 10.4% during Q2 ended June 30.

The research firm said the overall market grew 7% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), while smartphones alone grew at 24.8% in shipments terms during the April-June period.
India shipped a total of 56.6 million handsets during the same period and 43% of them were smartphones.

Meanwhile, the contribution of Chinese brands also grew 97% year-on-year (YoY) during Q2 as against 48% for Indian brands within the smartphones segment.
In a statement, CMR said such influence and acceptance of Chinese brands poses a challenge to emerging as well as incumbent Indian brands of smartphones.
Players like Intex have believed in reaching out to first time smartphone users, and this strategy has paid off very well for them, giving them entry into the "Top 3's list," Karn Chauhan, Analyst, CMR's India Telecoms Practice said.
