Sikkim, the second smallest state of India is the least populated one covering an area of 7,096 square kilometers in the Eastern Himalayas. This is a mountainous terrain rich in biodiversity nestled in the Himalayan Mountains. In 1975, Sikkim joined the Indian union through a referendum. As per the electoral rolls, the total number of eligible voters in the state of Sikkim is 3,70,770. This figure consists of 1,91,017 male voters and 1,79,753 female voters. There are no registered third gender voters in Sikkim.

In 2014 general elections for the Parliament, the state elected SDF. The 2009 Lok Sabha polling results also saw SDF elected from here. Right from 1985 Parliamentary elections, SDF has been winning from this constituency. The sitting MP from here is Prem Das who won during two consecutive terms from here in 2009 and 2014. In 2004 Parliamentary elections, Nakul Das Rai won from this constituency on behalf of SDF.

The State of Sikkim has only one Lok Sabha constituency. This is an unreserved seat. Polling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were held in this constituency on April 11, 2019 when the country went for the first round of polling.
