Both Spotify and Apple Music technically charge $9.99 a month, but subscriptions purchased through the iTunes App Store charges a 30 percent fee - causing Spotify to charge $12.99 for its premium service within iTunes to generate the same revenue.

Now, Spotify is making sure that its iPhone users realize they can save an easy $3 if they sign up through Spotify's website, according to The Verge, sending out an email that details exactly how to shave a few dollars off their subscription.

The email reads:

"We like you just the way you are. Don't change. But if you want to change how much you pay for Spotify Premium, we're here to help. In case you didn't know, the normal Premium price is only $9.99, but Apple charges 30 percent on all payments made through iTunes. If you switch your payments to Spotify.com, there are no transaction costs and you'll save money."

A detailed 12-step plan follows, telling users to forego the auto-renew function in the iTunes store so that they can avoid being charged extra every following month.

The competition between both all-you-can-eat music services has already been tense a few months back. Before Apple Music's launch, Apple executives may have tried to eliminate Spotify's free streaming ride by talking up those in the music industry.
