- Police say Devin Patrick Kelley, the gunman in Texas' deadliest mass shooting, sustained three gunshot wounds.
- The last gunshot wound, made to the head, appeared to be self-inflicted, an autopsy report said.
Devin Patrick Kelley, whom police have identified as the gunman who carried out the deadliest mass shooting in modern Texas history, sustained three gunshot wounds, police said Monday. That included one gunshot wound to the head that police said appeared to be self-inflicted, said Freeman Martin of the Texas Department of Public Safety, citing autopsy results.
Kelley, who was wearing body armor, suffered gunshot wounds on the leg and torso from an armed citizen with a rifle amid his shooting spree at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, police officials said during a press conference Monday night.
A third gunshot wound to the head appeared to be self-inflicted, police said.
After a brief chase following the shooting, Kelley was found dead in his car. Police say they have since found more than 15 30-round magazines and hundreds of shells from the crime scene. Kelley had also reportedly spent all of his rounds during the shooting spree.
Although law enforcement officials were still in the early stages in determining a motive for the shooting, officials told CNN that he was obsessed with mass shootings on his social-media channels.
The shooting left 26 people dead. Police said Monday night that four people were still in serious condition and 10 others were in critical condition.
Victims' ages in the shooting ranged from 17 months to 72 years old.
