Paul Golding, the leader of the far-right group Britain First, has been arrested in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) took Golding into custody on Thursday in connection with a Britain First rally this summer.
He was in the area to "support" his deputy leader Jayda Fransen, who is appearing in court on Thursday to answer accusations of hate speech related to the same rally.
It comes just over two weeks after Britain First was put in the spotlight by President Donald Trump, who retweeted three anti-Muslim hate videos posted by Fransen, prompting a rebuke from UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
A statement tweeted by the PSNI said: "Detectives investigating speeches made at the Northern Ireland Against Terrorism Rally on Sunday 6th August this year have arrested a 35-year-old man in the Belfast area today."
Police sources have indicated to Business Insider that Golding, who is 35, is the man described. Britain First also wrote on its Facebook page that Golding had been arrested.
