This bike will stay safe from thieves and survive torrential downpours
Summer is a prime time for cycling - unless, of course, you're a victim of bike theft.
Bike theft is an increasingly common problem. According to a study from the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation, around half of their cyclists will have their bike stolen at some point - and only 2.4% of stolen bikes are ever recovered by police.
Four years ago, Tivan Amour and Slava Menn's friend got hit by a car while cycling in Boston at night after his bike lights had been stolen. Their friend survived, and the incident gave Amour and Menn an idea for a startup.
"When he told us this story, it occurred to us that maybe this is happening to a lot of people," Amour told Tech Insider.
So in 2013, Amour and Menn raised over $177,000 on Kickstarter to launch Fortified Bicycle, which initially sold bike lights that were theft-proof and waterproof.
But in the three years since, they've turned their focus to building an indestructible bike that can survive both theft attempts and harsh weather conditions.
"Right now, we have a bicycle that survives in the city - it resists rust, resists theft, and resists wear and tear," Amour said.
Fortified Bicycle began shipping its Invincible Bicycles this month. Take a look at what it can do below.
