The new financial year saw its first month ending recently, and as per reports, India’s top auto makers gave this year a good start, reporting strong sales in the month of April.

As per analysts, estimate passenger vehicle volumes have risen 11% from a year earlier and stand at about 2,47,000 units in the past month, supported by new launches in the utility vehicle segment.

Talking of India’ biggest auto maker Maruti, its sales grew more than 16% to 1,17,045 units in April in the domestic market, because of surged demand for its premium hatchback Baleno and compact SUV Vitara Brezza. The sales increased across all the segments, but the small-car category, with Alto and WagonR, saw the figures falling nearly 10%.

However, in the utility vehicle segment, the sales grew fourfold, because of the recently launched Vitara Brezza.

April also saw Hyundai Motor India's local sales increasing 9.7% to 42,351 units, and strong demands for Creta, Elite i20 and Grand i10 models can be cited as the reasons for this rise.

Talking of Renault, Kwid’s success made the company’s sales increasing more than threefold to 12,426 units in April, while Mahindra & Mahindra posted a 16% rise at 22,655 vehicles. Ford, on the other hand, saw the volume growing more than 32%.
