This 'granny elephant' from Kerala could enter the Guinness World Records

85-Year old Dakshayani, was conferred with the title of 'Gajamuthassi' (granny elephant) by her custodian Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in Thiruvananthapuram.

"She is doing fine, except for a slight vison problem with her right eye, and would surely enter the Guinness World Records, beating the Taiwan elephant (Lin Wang, who died in 2003 at the age of 86)," said Mukesh, the young mahout handling Dakshayani told TNN.

Dakshayani’s association with the Travancore royal family at Thiruvarattu temple goes back to the time when she was six years old, as told by TDB president Prayar Gopalakrishnan.

"If she happens to enter the Guinness World Records, the state government should consider using her portrait as the elephant that figure in the official emblem," he added.

The TDB has got support from Universal Records Forum (URF), a Kolkata-based organisation, so that Dakshayani could find her place in the Guinness Records for being the oldest living captive elephant on Earth
