Shankar's appointment comes at a time when Infosys’s chief executive officer Vishal Sikka is looking to change the way company handles its employees. After his appointment as Infosys’ CEO last year, Sikka has come up with several changes including the removal of the company's formal dress code.

Announcing Shankar’s appointed in a conference on Monday, Sikka said that he would be the key to transform people strategy, which would be the key in implementing the firm’s overall strategy.

In the past few months, Infosys has seen a great improvement in employee satisfaction, as measured by a drastic drop in its attrition rate.

For the quarter ended September 30, Infosys reported an annualized standalone attrition rate of 14.1%, down marginally from the June quarter, and down nearly 700 basis points from the year ago period.
