Baahubali has broken all records the Khans of Bollywood so painstakingly built over the years. At Rs. 250 Crores ($ 39 million), the Telugu flick is pegged as the India's most expensive film and has collected around Rs. 70 Crores worldwide on its very first day. While the Hyderabad-based Telugu film industry is known to churn out pricey films, the dethroning of celebrated Bollywood blockbusters like Dhoom 3, Happy New Year and Ek Tha Tiger has made many an Indian cinema goer sit up straight.

The numbers are just a part of the deal. The facts are even mind boggling. The designers reportedly took 200 days to make the sets, and then employ around 8000 junior artistes. The film also took a leaf out of Lord of the Rings to design a language called Kilikili especially for the movie. The American war film features a fictional account of what happened in the Battle of Thermopylae. The plot is woven around King Leonidas who led 300 Spartans against the Persia’s immortal ‘god King’ Xerxes.

300 released in North America on March, 2007. It bagged a cool $28 million on its opening day itself and a hefty $70 million within the weekend. The film grossed $456 million worldwide.

Troy is loosely based on Homer’s Iliad where Achilles leads the Greek army as they invade the historical city of Troy, guarded by Hector. The film boasts of big names like Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom.

The film made $497 worldwide and is in the top 150 highest grossing films of all time. However, it is one of the most expensive films produced in modern cinema at a production cost of $175 million.

The film received positive reviews worldwide and earned back its103 million budget in two weeks. It grossed a cool $457 million worldwide and $35 million in the opening weekend in US theaters.
