Bengaluru-headquartered Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has left behind several carmakers like Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors, despite having low volume in its overall sales.

While Hyundai leads only one segment, M&M and Tata Motors led none. This makes Toyota the only brand after Maruti Suzuki to lead the highest number of segments.

The company’s portfolio has seven main products, out of which three dominate segments namely Executive sedan, UV2 (Under Rs 15 lakh) and UV4 (Under Rs 25 lakhs) with Corolla, Innova Crysta and Fortuner in the category of passenger vehicles. Other than these, it’s also authorised to sell Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado in the country.

However, the company is yet to break into mass car segment, being forced to concentrate only on the premium segments.

"Although we are predominantly present in segments with price band of Rs 10 lakh and above, we do have representation in the B hatch and B sedan segments through our products in the Etios series since 2010," N. Raja, Senior VP Director of Marketing & Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, told ET.

"Our Etios series models (Etios, Liva and Cross) are also being appreciated for their performances driven by QDR philosophy. We will continue serving our customers in this segment as well with Etios series models".

When we talk of sales, Toyota grabs the 5th position in the top 10 carmakers of the country, even as the total number of Toyota products is very less than its rivals.
