Amid swirling rumors of a staff shakeup, President Donald Trump reportedly jokes with White House chief of staff Reince Priebus that he will make him ambassador to Greece if he's removed from his top post, The New York Times reported Monday.

The Times reported that Trump recently became "more open in discussing" Priebus' possible departure from his top White House post, with the president joking that he would send him off to Athens if such a move is made. Priebus' mother is of Greek descent.

And when Priebus asked for a list of ambassadors, the Greece slot was left blank, officials told the Times.

Roger Stone, a longtime Trump adviser, has also joked about the possibility of a Greece ambassadorship for Priebus:

Speaking with friends, Priebus said his goal is to remain chief of staff for "at least a year," according to the Times.

Trump has already been asking Republicans about possible replacements for Priebus, including his current economic adviser Gary Cohn and lobbyist David Urban, according to Axios.

Speculation about a staff shakeup ramped up in recent days in light of the resignation of White House communications director Mike Dubke.
