BB-8 in a Business Insider meeting.

Today, Sphero unveiled its BB-8, the $149.99 take-home version of the droid that's poised to take the world by storm when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters this December.

Sphero chief creative officer Rob Maigret told Business Insider that BB-8 is the most "droid-like" home robot ever.

Part of what makes a droid a droid, Maigret says, is that they have a job and a purpose - C-3PO is a translator; R2-D2 is an astromech navigator for X-Wing fighters, and so on.

To put that to the test, Business Insider decided to put BB-8 to work as our new intern in our San Francisco office.

BB-8 doesn't have a lot of journalism experience, and he's a little behind on the news, given that his last adventure was a long, long time ago in a galaxy far away. But he's got a lot of personality.

Here's how it went. And remember, if you want to work with BB-8 and the rest of the crew, Business Insider is hiring.
