World's largest power plant becomes fully operational in Madhya Pradesh

The world's largest integrated power plant cum coal mining project, Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Power has finally become fully operationalised. The 3,960 megawatt Sasan ultra mega power plant (UMPP ) became completely operational after the commissioning of the sixth and last unit of 660 mw, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Completed 12 months before the power purchase agreement (PPA) schedule, the Rs 27,000-crore project is the largest integrated power plant-cum-coal mining project at a single location in the world involving this magnitude of investment.
Coal production has already commenced from the 20 million tonnes Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines associated with the power project, company said in an official release.
With this unit,Reliance Power's generation capacity has increased to 5,945 mw, including 5,760 mw of thermal capacity and 185 mw of renewable energy based capacity.
Reliance Power has the largest portfolio of power projects among India's private companies. It also has the largest captive coal reserves in the private sector, estimated at two billion tonnes. The company is developing three coal mines in Indonesia and is also developing coal bed methane blocks.
