Looks like two mega forces are coming together to provide affordable smartphones in India. Reliance Jio has made quite a splash in the telecom scene ever since it started it services in India, Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio has been providing free services to all consumers ever since it launched its services on 5th September 2016 making sure the company remains in news and amidst controversies. Google on the other hand has been trying to bring in an affordable android phone in the country for quite sometime. Google launched Android One project in 2014 with Rs. 6500 smartphones but it failed to take off.

According to a report it looks like the two major players are coming together to launch affordable phones in India. Reliance Jio had announced launching affordable feature phones that will help Jio take their services to new users all over the country. And when Sundar Pichai was in India earlier this year he said that there is a need for sub $30 phone in India. Looks like the two companies will be coming together to bring in super affordable phones that are likely to be launched this year.

This is certainly going to be a big move for both companies as it will help Reliance Jio increase data adoption, Jio has already crossed 100 million customers on its 4g network and affordable phones can certainly help Jio grow its network further. And for Google, this is certainly a take two at the Android One project that was launched by Pichai himself in India but failed to take off in the way Google imagined. It can also help Google achieve its next billion goal.

The report suggests that the new handsets are likely to be unveiled this year and it will work only on Jio network.
