Škoda Auto is planning to make use of its parent Volkswagen's partnership with Tata Motors to make a comeback into India’s compact vehicle segment, particularly in the high-volume small car category.

For the comeback, Škoda is considering launching a mini-SUV and an entry-level sedan in 2019, in a joint product strategy with Tata Motors.

Tata Motors' advanced modular platform (AMP) could be made use of for launching these new products. AMP is a highly-flexible platform able to manufacture a variety of vehicle types while also offering high degree of commonality of parts across product lines.

It’s been a few years that Škoda has been planning to revamp its Indian operations, facing problems like poor service quality and falling customer confidence.
