Epicuria Mall in Delhi’s Nehru Place is getting a swanky makeover and it’s calling out to you.

Sure the idea of dressing up and eating out at a restaurant or pub situated inside a fairly crowded station might not appeal to some, (We’re looking at you, South Delhi) but trust us, it’s worth the effort.

First thoughts:

(The interior of Dimcha)

Located in the newest upper ground floor that also houses Social, Lord of the Drinks, a rather out-of-place Looks Salon and the yet-to- be opened Irish House and Nandos among others, Dimcha, Epicuria's Asian offering hits all the right notes.

Seating approximately 36 people, the restaurant’s decor is simplistic with glossy tiled floors, white walls and cutesy elements like fuchsia tea light holders and white tables and chairs, chandeliers and miniature coke bottles to hold the sauces that go beautifully with the starters and dimsums.

As expected from the name, we went with high expectations from the dimsums and stir-fries, and boy did the restaurant deliver.

Dimsums:

(From L-R- Hoisin Chicken Dumpling, Bokchoy and Tofu Dumpling, Chicken and Prawn Sui Mai and the Spicy Chicken Dumpling)

To start with, Dimcha boasts of a wide and interesting variety of dimsums- each better than the last one- and each terribly hard to forget- just like that crush you never seem to get over.

We sampled the Chilli Garlic Dumpling (Rs 239), Chicken Hoisin Dumping (Rs 269), Bokchoy and Tofu Dumpling (Rs 239), Spicy Chicken Dumpling (Rs 269) and the Chicken and Prawn Sui Mai (Rs 269) and were blown away by all of them. Each of the dumplings that comes in four pieces per basket were unique in their taste and were bursting with flavours.

If we had to pick favourites, we’d recommend the unique and massively interesting Bokchoy and Tofu Dumplings for the vegetarians/ vegans and the Spicy Chicken Dumpling for the non-vegetarians.

However, the Hoisin Chicken Dumpling stole the show. It’s ‘we would endure a trip to the Violet Line every week to have this’ good.

The dumplings come in a traditional basket which keeps them warm, so feel free to order away while you make up your mind for what’s to come later. The restaurant also offers an option for you to choose between three or five baskets of dumplings at Rs 559/Rs 889 for vegetarians and Rs 699/Rs 999 for non-vegetarians.

Salads and Mocktails:

(The French Bean and Tofu Salad was a winner)

Moving on, skip the soups and opt for the salads instead. The French Bean and Tofu salad (Rs 229) and the Raw Papaya Salad (Rs 229) are our winners for their freshness and tangyness. The quantity is more than enough for one person, leaving little to complain.

To sip on, blindly order the Kiwi mint cooler (Rs 149) as soon as you can. You’ll be as surprised by how different it tastes as compared to kiwi mint coolers everywhere as we were.

Appetisers:

(Crispy Lotus Stem in Honey Chili Sauce)

If you’re in the mood for some chicken, opt for the Dimcha special Crispy Aromatic Chicken (Rs 599) that’ll come replete with pancakes, hoisin sauce and fresh vegetables, Asian taco style or you could say ahoy to the wok tossed appetisers (stir fries) like we did.

We called for the Crispy Lotus Stem in Honey Chili Sauce (Rs 249) which we’d be happily snacking on forever if we had the option, Crispy Tofu in Black Pepper (Rs 269) that had our vegan friend jumping in joy and the Chicken tossed in Dried Red Chillies and Sichuan Pepper Corn (Rs 269) which was the first item in the course of our meal to disappoint.

But, more than anything, do order the Steamed Sole Marinated in Thai herbs. Spicy and wrapped in banana leaves, this item is another winner.

Curry scented meals:

(Dimcha's curry bowls are too good to be true)

If you’re still hungry, Dimcha comes to the rescue with their set curry bowls. You can choose your base (rice or noodles), your mains (meat or vegetables) and your sauce (Healthy Soy Garlic, Holy Basil Sauce, Yellow Bean Sauce etc).

We sampled the Crispy Mock Duck Bowl with Healthy Soy Garlic Sauce(399), the Exotic Vegetables Bowl with Home Made Sichuan Sauce (Rs 379) and the Thai Red Curry (Rs 379) and we’re happy to report that Dimcha does the Asian food ample justice.

Done and dusted, order the Apple Cheesecake (Rs 229) and sip on some herbal teas to say goodbye to the most filling Asian meal you’ll have in Delhi.

We love the ambience and predict that Dimcha will become quite the popular date spot. They have outdoor seating as well that you can exploit for some quiet dinners. Moreover, we love how vegan-friendly the restaurant is and how organised the menu looks.

Misses:

We’d love if they include some more dessert addictions, but otherwise Dimcha hits the sweet spot.

BI Roundup:

Safe to say, we just found our new Asian haunt. Would we come back for a meal? In a heartbeat. So should you.

P.S- They just started serving alcohol, so get your (un)healthy dose of cocktails too.
